About New Orleans Tree Service Pros
New Orleans Tree Service Pros takes down, prunes and grinds out trees for homeowners in New Orleans and the surrounding parishes: Uptown and Mid-City, Gentilly and New Orleans East, the Westbank, Metairie and Kenner, and Chalmette and Arabi in St. Bernard.
A job here starts with a walk around the tree, not a number over the phone. We look up into the crown for dead limbs, cracks and weak forks, and then down at the base, because in this city the base tells you a lot. Formosan subterranean termites can feed on nearly any living tree and hollow it from the inside, and mud shelter tubes running up the trunk or carton material at an old limb scar are signs we check for on every visit. We also look at the ground itself. Much of New Orleans sits on soft clay and silt with a high water table, and roots in that soil tend to stay shallow, which matters a great deal once the soil is soaked during a tropical storm.
Then we look at what is around the tree. Shotgun doubles sit a few feet apart, backyards are often reached only through a side alley or a gate, and overhead lines run along nearly every block. On many lots, access and what is underneath decide how the tree has to come down far more than the tree's height does.
We also sort out whose tree it is before quoting. In New Orleans, the Department of Parks and Parkways maintains all City trees, including the trees on neutral grounds and in the strip between the sidewalk and the street, and any work on a City tree needs a City tree work permit. People have been fined for cutting live oaks that stood on City property next to their own lot. If a tree looks like it belongs to the City, we tell you and point you to 311 first. Branches tangled in power lines are Entergy's job, not ours, and we will say so.
After the visit you get a written quote that lists each tree, the work to be done, the cleanup, whether the stump is included, and the price. Nothing gets cut until you approve it, and if anything changes once the work is underway, we agree on it with you in writing before going further.
What to expect on the day
- Limbs over roofs, fences and galleries lowered on ropes instead of dropped.
- Brush chipped on site where the street allows a chipper; hauled out by hand through the alley where it does not.
- Logs cut to length, stacked or removed, whichever you chose on the quote.
- Driveways, walks and beds kept clear and raked at the end of the day.
- After a storm, trees on houses and trees blocking a door or driveway come first.
